Description of the tour Aix-en-Provence and Lavender Fields.
What to expect from the tour:
This tour is all about exploring the city of Aix-en-Provence as well as the beautiful Lavender Fields.
The tour starts with a trip to Aix-en-Provence during the morning and this wonderful city comes with 17th-century architecture and plenty of character. It’s filled with private mansions, boutiques, bars, restaurants and coffee shops and is known as the city of the painter Paul Cezanne.
You can explore the culture here while the youthful vibe is charming and alluring in equal measures. It’s a popular choice with cruise passengers as it is only 30 minutes from Marseille. When you tour the city, you will be able to explore the main attractions with your driver/guide and that will involve taking a walk through the city centre and exploring the food market as well as the Cathedral of Saint Sauveur.
During your walk, you can stop and purchase local delicacies such as pastries and sweets while taking in the sights and soaking up the atmosphere.
Just 45 minutes from the city you’ll find the Lavender Fields and you are taken there via the motorway. Once you arrive, you will instantly see the natural beauty of the Lavender Fields, where you will be given plenty of time to take photographs throughout the area. Nearby, there is a distillery that we can stop to explore whereby you can learn more about the Lavender plantations and the distillation process as they extract a perfumed oil which is used for massages, the smell and as a natural healing product. You can also explore the local products that are sold directly which include oil, lavender flowers, lavender honey and almonds.
It’s also possible to discover the tiny village of Valensole which could be considered the Lavender capital. Here you can enjoy a drink and food and even try a lavender ice cream before we leave.
This is a superb tour and one that allows you to immerse yourself in the wonderful surroundings while capturing great photographs. However, we do ask our clients to respect the land and the lavender fields as they are nurtured by the hardworking families who live in the area and use them to earn a living. So, please avoid walking on the plants while walking in the fields and please do not pick them as they are available for purchase from the many shops in the area. Therefore, the fields must be left in the same condition as when we arrived.
Once the tour has been completed, it will take around 1 hour and 15 minutes to return to the ship. We can also offer the tour in reverse order and your driver who is in charge will be able to provide their professional advice.
The lavender tours can only take place starting from the 20th of June up until the 20th of July (or up to the 15th of August but in a different area that is just as beautiful and is around 2 hours and 30 minutes from Marseille).
